The short answer
Cinopsys works without an account: install it, search for a title and mark it watched. Your watch history and preferences are stored on your device, not uploaded to Cinopsys servers. You can add a Google Drive backup or connect Trakt, Simkl, MDBList or WeTrakr later.
A lot of trackers start with a sign-up screen. Cinopsys doesn't: you open it, search for something you've watched and mark it. Your library lives on your phone, and an account is something you can add later, not something you need first.
- No sign-up. Install Cinopsys and start tracking movies and TV straight away.
- Your library stays on your phone. Per the Privacy Policy, watched titles and preferences are kept on the device and not uploaded to Cinopsys servers.
- Add more whenever you like. Turn on a Google Drive backup, or connect Trakt, Simkl, MDBList or WeTrakr, under Settings → Sync & Backup.
Start tracking in 3 steps
-
Install and open Cinopsys
Get Cinopsys from Google Play and open it. There's no sign-up screen to get through.
-
Search for what you've watched
Search for a movie or show, or browse what's trending, then mark it as watched or add it to your watchlist.
-
Check where your library lives
Open Settings → Sync & Backup. Under "Where your library lives", This device only keeps everything on your phone. You can pick Trakt, Simkl, MDBList or WeTrakr here later.
What you get without an account
Everything you track is stored in the app on your phone:
- Your watch history
- Ratings
- Your watchlist and collection
- Custom personal lists, see custom lists
- Your viewing stats, see watch stats
What to know before you rely on it
- The library is on this phone. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data removes it, so turn on the Google Drive backup if you want a copy in your own Drive.
- It doesn't follow you between devices on its own. To move to a new phone, restore from your Drive backup, or connect a service such as Trakt and use it from both.
- The app still sends diagnostics. No account doesn't mean no analytics: the Privacy Policy lists Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics and Performance Monitoring, used to improve stability and performance.
How other trackers handle accounts
Trackers differ here. Showly, for example, is a Trakt client and needs a Trakt account to track (see Cinopsys vs Showly). Moviebase's own site treats a Trakt or TMDB connection as optional (see Cinopsys vs Moviebase for what that does and doesn't include).
Nothing here locks you in. When you want your library on a service, connect Trakt, Simkl, MDBList or WeTrakr from Sync & Backup.
The verdict
If you want to track movies and TV without handing over an account, Cinopsys lets you start right away and decide on backup and sync later.
