Use MDBList on Android: connect it to Cinopsys.

The short answer

To connect MDBList, open Settings, then Sync & Backup, choose MDBList and approve access on MDBList's own sign-in page. Your watch history and watchlist then stay in step both ways, and MDBList adds collection tracking, half-star ratings, comments, and creating and editing lists.

MDBList is where a lot of people already keep their lists, and it feeds Plex, Stremio, Radarr and Sonarr. Connecting it to Cinopsys keeps MDBList as your backend and gives you a fast Android app to use it through.

Connect MDBList in 5 steps

1. Install Cinopsys

   Get Cinopsys from Google Play and open it. Everything works before you connect anything, so you can look around first.

2. Open Sync & Backup in Settings

   Go to Settings → Sync & Backup. Under "Where your library lives" you'll see a tile for Trakt, Simkl, MDBList and WeTrakr. A service you have not signed in to offers Sign in or Use on this phone.

3. Select MDBList

   Choose MDBList. Cinopsys opens MDBList's own site to sign in, so your password is only ever typed on MDBList, never into the app.

4. Sign in and authorize

   Log in to MDBList and approve access for Cinopsys. You are returned to the app automatically.

5. Let the first sync run

   Cinopsys pulls in your MDBList watchlist, custom lists and ratings, including half-star ratings. After that first pass, your watch history and watchlist stay in step both ways. The ratings on a title's detail page start drawing on MDBList too; Discover and search keep using TMDB.

What MDBList adds in Cinopsys

Every service Cinopsys connects to supports the basics: ratings, check-ins and your personal calendar work on all four, and your watch history and watchlist stay in step both ways. On top of that, each service adds what it supports. For MDBList that means:

• Collection tracking. Mark what you own or keep; collection is available with Trakt and MDBList.
• Half-star ratings. Rate in half-star steps, available with MDBList and WeTrakr.
• Comments. Read and write comments on titles.
• Custom lists you can create and edit. Lists are a core reason people use MDBList, and in Cinopsys you can build and change them directly. You can sort a list by title, release date, rating or date added.

A few things MDBList does not add, so you are not surprised: lists on MDBList hold movies and shows (not seasons, episodes or people), and there are no favorites or notes. List reordering is listed for Trakt and WeTrakr rather than MDBList, so a list order you set on your phone stays on your phone. The anime tab belongs to Simkl, and smart lists are a Trakt feature. Who MDBList suits

MDBList is a good fit if lists are the centre of your tracking. It is where many people keep curated lists that feed Plex, Stremio, Radarr and Sonarr, and connecting it means the same lists are one tap away on your phone. It also suits anyone who wants half-star precision on ratings without giving up collection tracking.

It is a less natural fit if you want manual list reordering or smart lists, or if your friends and household are all on a different service. In that case Trakt or WeTrakr may suit better, and you can switch whenever you like.

Signed in to several services

You are not locked to one service. You can stay signed in to several and switch between them, and each keeps its own library. That makes it easy to try MDBList without leaving your Trakt library behind: connect it, look around, and switch back if it is not for you. You can also keep a Google Drive backup running alongside whichever you choose.

Also save my activity to a second service

To mirror what you do onto a second service, open that service's options (Sync & Backup, the … on its tile) and turn on Also save my activity to [service]. While another service is active, your new watches, ratings, watchlist changes, drops, holds, collection, favorites, notes and finished check-ins are also written to your real account there, and so are removals. It is off by default, per service, only copies actions from the moment you turn it on (it does not bring in your existing history), and does not copy lists or comments. Copies that the other service could not take are listed under Needs attention. If MDBList's own Trakt sync is on, copying activity to MDBList can count a play twice. If something does not look right

• Missing lists: check your MDBList account's list limits first, since those apply on MDBList's side.
• A feature is dimmed: some features depend on the active service. Cinopsys hides or dims what the active service cannot do.
• Sync stopped after a while: if a service rejects your sign-in, Cinopsys shows a 'session expired' prompt and the service's tile says 'Sign-in expired'. Tap Reconnect. Your local library is kept, and changes made meanwhile are sent after you reconnect.
• Where do failed changes show? Open Force sync: it shows the last error and how many items are pending. Copies to another service that failed are under Needs attention in that service's options.
