The short answer
Cinopsys has seven home-screen widgets: shows calendar, movies calendar, anime calendar, show progress, anime progress, movie watchlist and search. Add them from your Android launcher's widget picker, and use them to check dates, progress and your watchlist without opening the app.
Most of what you need from a tracker is a quick look: what is on tonight, where you left off in a show, what is next on the movie watchlist. Cinopsys ships seven home-screen widgets so those answers are on your home screen.
- Seven widgets: shows calendar, movies calendar, anime calendar, show progress, anime progress, movie watchlist and search.
- Three calendars, two progress widgets, one watchlist and one search shortcut.
- Add them like any Android widget, from your launcher's widget picker.
The seven widgets
Shows calendar
The shows calendar widget puts upcoming episodes of the shows you follow on your home screen. It is the widget for the question “is anything on tonight?”, and it draws on the same personal calendar described in the release calendar guide.
Movies calendar
The movies calendar does the same for films: the release dates of the movies you are waiting for, without opening the app. If you keep a long movie watchlist, it is a gentle reminder of what is about to arrive.
Anime calendar
Anime airs on its own rhythm, often week by week through a season, so it gets its own calendar widget. Pair it with the setup in how to track anime.
Show progress
The show progress widget is about where you are in the series you are working through, so you can see your place at a glance instead of opening each show.
Anime progress
Anime progress is the same idea for your anime library, kept separate from live-action shows so a long-running series does not crowd out everything else.
Movie watchlist
The movie watchlist widget keeps the films you plan to watch on your home screen. Deciding what to watch tonight is quicker when the list is already in front of you.
Search
The search widget is a shortcut into Cinopsys search from your home screen, handy when you want to look up a title the moment it comes up in conversation.
Adding a widget
Cinopsys widgets are ordinary Android widgets, so you add them the way you add any other. Long-press an empty area of your home screen, open your launcher's widget picker, find Cinopsys in the list and place the widget you want. Launchers differ slightly in wording and layout, so if the steps look different on your phone, search the picker for “Cinopsys”.
You can place more than one. Nothing stops you from putting the shows calendar on one screen and the movie watchlist on another.
Where to start
If you only add one, make it the shows calendar: it answers the question you ask most often, which is what is on and when. If you mostly watch films, start with the movie watchlist. If you follow anime, begin with the anime calendar. You can always add more later, and removing a widget never touches your library; it only changes what your home screen shows.
A few useful combinations
- Weekly planner: the shows calendar and the movies calendar together, for an at-a-glance view of the week.
- Catch-up screen: show progress next to the movie watchlist, for evenings when you are deciding what to continue and what to start.
- Anime season: the anime calendar and anime progress together, so airing dates and your place in each series sit side by side.
- Minimal: just the search widget, a single shortcut when you only want to look something up.
Widgets and your library
Widgets are a view onto your Cinopsys library. If you stay signed in to several services, each has its own library, and the personal calendar works on all four, so the calendar widgets are not tied to a single service. See connect Trakt and the other connect guides for how services are set up.
