The short answer

Trakt.tv is a widely used tracking platform, and Cinopsys is built to be a first-class client for it. When you connect your account, your watch history and watchlist stay in step both ways: mark an episode watched in Cinopsys and it appears on Trakt; mark one watched on Trakt and it shows up in Cinopsys. Ratings, check-ins and your personal calendar work too, and Trakt adds collection, favorites, smart lists, list reordering and comments.
That means you can switch to a nicer app without migrating anything. Your Trakt account stays exactly as it is, Cinopsys just becomes another window into it, built natively for Android.
Why people look past Trakt's own app
Two things tend to push people to alternatives. First, the redesigned Trakt app divided its community, some long-time users found the new experience a step back and started trying other clients. Second, Trakt's 2026 limits (announced 27 February 2026) set a 250-item watchlist and 5 personal lists with their own item caps on free accounts, with larger allowances on paid VIP. Trakt says the higher free watchlist and per-list caps are live and the rest are being phased in, with enforcement dates still to be announced (see its follow-up thread). VIP renewals also moved to a single standard price on 12 June 2025 (about $60 a year; check trakt.tv/vip for today's price). From July 2026 (announced 22 July) a free account can also connect only one third-party app at a time; Cinopsys counts as one, the official Trakt apps don't. Existing connections over the limit keep working for now, but a free account cannot authorize another until it is back within the limit. None of that changes how good Trakt's data is. It just means the app you point at that data matters more than ever.

Where Trakt's own app still makes sense
We want this to be fair. Trakt's first-party app is the most "official" experience, it's available across iOS, web and Android, and VIP bundles in extra perks across the whole Trakt ecosystem. If you split your time across Apple and Android devices, or you want everything from one vendor, the official app is a perfectly reasonable choice.
But if your day-to-day tracking happens on Android and you want a client built for it, that's what Cinopsys is built to be.
